About Giaans Dressmakers

Growing up, creativity and fashion had always been a part of Giaan’s life, it started with an obsession for drawing princesses and goddesses wearing pretty dresses. Arriving in Townsville in 2015 with her husband, and as a fresh graduate from her fashion degree, with the experience from the several internships in Melbourne, Giaan was eager to start something new and exciting of her own. Two years went by as a full-time seamstress and Giaan’s Dressmakers was born in 2017.

The primary focus of her business is on providing excellence in tailoring, dressmaking, alterations, and now private sewing lessons. Giaan believes sewing is a dying art, especially in many first world countries, including Australia. Her aim is to keep the art of sewing alive through teaching.

Giaan is passionate about unique Australian fashion culture, the topic of her research thesis. The Drill Hall is a second home to many local artists and is where Giaan finds her inspiration, support, love, and a sense of belonging. Through her sewing lessons and social media, this young, passionate and enthusiastic soul loves to share her knowledge and further develop her fashion career. Below is just some examples of her work.

Testimonials

Giaan was amazing from start to finish, professional and very personal service. I originally approached her about stock she was currently selling as a gift for a friend, I then asked if she would be interested in doing a custom piece for me. She took on the challenge and communicated constantly where we were at with the job and a photo of progress towards the finished product. We did alter slightly at the end and she was happy to accommodate requests. Was excited to receive my products and it didn't disappoint! Very amazing feel and quality of design, product and feel, very pleased with what I received and will continue to go to her for a well-priced quality job.

I contacted Giaan about making a Sonic costume for book week, and from start to finish nothing was a problem for her. She was so helpful, communication was fantastic and she made sure to get every bit of detail to make it the best costume it could be.
It was so much more than I even expected, especially the entire headpiece made from scratch.
Giaan thank you so much, you made everything so easy for us, and my son is so happy with his costume, he wants to wear it all day every day!
